A registered instrument making unit functions under Sopanam Cultural and Education Trust at Ayankalam near Kuttippuram in Malappuram district. The instrument making unit initially started as a leisure time work of a group of artists in Sopanam School of Panchavadyam with the help of other art lovers. The unit now focuses on the making of Chenda, Idakka, Thimila, etc and its associated accessories. Materials like Podippu, miniature Idakka, Nettipattam are made by women participants of our unit. This unit thereby provides an adequate means for life for them too.
